I watched an old commercial for cold cream the other day and was reminded how far we’ve come in the way of skin care.
The commercial promised that all this woman had to do was use cold cream twice a day and her skin became fabulous, radiant!
But what the commercial neglected to mention was that the main ingredient in cold cream is mineral oil – the same main ingredient in baby oil. So it makes for a great makeup remover, but does it really take care of your skin?
I’m nearing that age of crow’s feet and tiny crevices discovered in the face, and it’s safe to say I’m looking for the latest advancements in cosmetics. We have come a long way since our mothers were our age.
One popular ingredient is Matrixyl, which is the brand name for Palmitoyl Pentapeptide. When Matrixyl is added to cultured human fibroblasts, it stimulates them to produce collagen, elastin and hyaluronic acid which are key components of the extra-cellular matrix.
Matrixyl is a key ingredient in many new skin care products, including Dermajuv’s Eye Revolution Cream. I am not sure if this will be a continuing trend in skin care, but I’ve done some research on it and it seems to be worth looking in to.
Stem cells are also being used in new skin care creams. While stem cell therapy has shown to help regrow new cells, I have yet to see if it will do so on an external level. I have never used stem cells because this is so new to our country, but it will definitely be interesting to see how stem cell research contributes to advancements in skin care.
