After the nine years I’ve lived in northwest Arkansas, working as a reporter and then a blogger, it’s no surprise that the Bentonville Art & Culinary Festival has become a reality. Through June 30, places all over Downtown Bentonville will host activities for those who love art, film, food, music and everything in between.
The Festival kicked off with Art Fête, an awesome event at the Bentonville 21C Museum Hotel, where we had tours of the hotel museum, delicious food and drink, music and pretty much a sneak peek at what lies in the month ahead. 21C is also hosting First Friday on June 6, so here are some things you might see if you head out there Friday night.
When I arrived, I approached Beth the bartender, who made me the night’s special: The Wine & Summer Cocktail.
(That’s cotton candy. Ah, the magic of photography!)
Soon, I was whisked away to the lobby of 21C, where I and my blogging colleagues began a brief tour of the museum. This was my first time in the lobby – such a delight! Why haven’t I been here before?!
And even though I can usually count the pairs shoes I wear in a month on half a hand, I found this piece particularly intriguing.
We also headed over to The Hive, where I got to meet this adorable green penguin. You can see these guys all over the place. Every hotel has a different color for the penguin. Why Bentonville’s is green, I cannot recall. I seriously looked around the restaurant and waited for an empty table so I could grab this guy. This is one of those Things You Have To Do If You Live In Bentonville kind of moments.
It was a wonderful time, and if it’s any indicator of what’s to come this month, it should be AMAZING. You can see a full schedule of events here.
I am so proud of this city and what it has to offer.
Only a week after I moved here, I covered the announcement of the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. Back then, I heard from all the strongest voices of the city that Bentonville was going to become a very strong and thriving art community. I saw the beginnings of it and am seeing much of it come to fruition as I continue to live in and enjoy this area.
I’m so excited about the Bentonville Art & Culinary Festival, I can hardly contain myself! Hope to see you there!
