I am so excited! Today I got my scanner from the Nielsen Homescan Consumer Panel!
Now called the National Consumer Panel (or NCP), this allows regular ol’ shoppers like you and me to report their purchases, collect data to improve the overall shopping experience for everyone else, and those reporting can be REWARDED with electronics, housewares and CASH.
You can apply to be a member of the panel here.
I haven’t used my scanner yet, but it basically looks like the kind of cell phone my dad DREAMS about having. It’s huge, it has GIANT buttons and a GIANT screen, but, sorry, dad, it’s not a phone. It’s a scanner. There are all kinds of ways to use the scanner; I hook mine up through an Ethernet connection.
Once a week, I will grab all the receipts from all purchases in the household – including groceries, pizza deliveries, clothing, stuff bought online – and will enter my shopping information into this little scanner-doodle. I’ll also have to keep the barcodes from my products handy.
I hear it typically takes about 30 minutes to an hour each week, but the longer you stay with the panel, the more points you can get and the more rewards you can earn.
Awesome rewards! In addition to things like gift cards and DVDs, you can earn Blu-Ray players, gaming consoles, a Home Theater System and even a large flat-panel television! Tons more are available to shop through in the catalog.
Mom is already excited and is picking out the rewards she wants. Submitting your data each week will also qualify you to win cash and prizes ranging from $50 every week to $20,000 or a dream vacation given to one winner per quarter!
It costs you NOTHING to sign up, and if you don’t like the program you can just send the scanner back using the pre-paid Fedex Return sticker that comes in the box. So you really have nothing to lose here! So sign up to apply to be part of this panel!
Are any of you members of the panel? I’d love to read about your experience!
