Volunteering, serving my community, helping friends, being a friend, working odd jobs, writing and networking. I can’t remember exactly what she said, but it was somewhere along the lines of, “If you do these things, you will find yourself with people who will lead you toward your passion.”
“You know who you sound like? Joseph Campbell,” I said. “You’re right! Follow your bliss!”, she said.
About a year ago I asked all my readers to go and watch Joseph Campbell and the Power of Myth, a six-part series of interviews between Bill Moyers and Joseph Campbell.
I was apprehensive for months about watching this series, until I finally sat down. And even though, for the most part, it’s a simple conversation between Bill and Joseph, it just absolutely blows you away. At this point I think Joseph could have read the phone book and I would have sat there, mouth agape, hanging on his every word.
The “Follow Your Bliss” motto is simple: Find your passion. Follow it. And if you do so, you will be drawn to others who will help you along your path.
So that’s what I’m going to be doing now. I know a lot of the things I’m passionate about. I’m a humanitarian, I’m a writer, I’m a creator, I am a thinker and a person of ideas. I make friends everywhere I go.
So now that I have lots of time on my hands, I have that time to do what I really want. And I’m joining the ranks of the many unemployed in this country who are also trying to figure out where their place is in this world. And probably trying to follow their bliss as well. All the while making sure there’s a roof over their heads and lights on in the bathroom at night.
Now, seriously – why haven’t you gone out and watched this DVD yet?
