UGH!!!! How would you feel if your cable company suddenly told you it didn’t appreciate that you were using Netflix’s streaming-video service instead of its own? That’s exactly what Comcast announced it was going to do last night.
Basically, they will block Netflix from Comcast customers unless a “toll” is paid to Comcast. This is so Comcast can wean its customers away from Netflix’s streaming video service in favor of Comcast’s. Time Warner Cable also has a similar streaming service.
When you hear all the news reports about “Net Neutrality,” this kind of crap is exactly what it’s about. It’s about “open internet;” the ability to pay for Internet service without fear that your internet service provider will take drastic measures to prevent you from accessing what they see as competition. Net Neutrality allows for the free market to remain what it is supposed to be, and allow you to make your own choices as to what you or your children see online in your home.
Right now there is a petition from the Progressive Change Campaign Committee that you can sign. It will tell the FCC that they need to take a stand on this issue and stand up for open Internet once and for all. Sign it and tell them how ridiculous this is.
