Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope each one of you has a wonderful and safe holiday.
As you know, this time of year is very difficult for many charities that are struggling to meet the needs of families and seniors who are trying to stay warm. Also, in a culture in which we feel the need to accumulate more and more things to keep up with everyone else, we must remember those who don’t have the same luxuries we have.
I was very excited to have the opportunity to join and write about my experience with Giveback.org, where you can create your very own charitable foundation, find the charities to which YOU want to contribute (publicly or anonymeously), and rahise funds for your foundation either by adding funds yourself or by shopping in the Giveback Mall, where you can shop from more than 400 retailers and have a percentage of your dollars spent go back to your foundation.
I love this idea – especially because it puts the control of charitable giving back in YOUR hands. When you make a purchase from one of these stores and funds are added to your account, you may take that money and donate it to any organization – regardless of whether or not the organization is supported financially or ideologically by that company. It truly is your foundation. You can donate to a local food bank, a national animal rescue charity or a world hunger relief organization. Or you can donate to all three.
Just searching through the site for charities to pick, I was amazed by the number of charities that
showed up. The site does a wonderful job of finding all registered nonprofits for you. It is also an excellent way to keep track of all your donations in one place when tax time comes around.
What I loved most, though, is that when you open your account, you immediately get $5 in your foundation to spend however you want. It’s a great incentive to donate funds or to get shopping to add money to your foundation.
Also, GiveBack has regular contests in which you can tell your own personal story and raise $1000 for your foundation as a result.
I don’t know why anyone would turn down signing up for this site, because you at least get five free dollars to donate to any charity you choose. What a wonderful way to start off the holiday season and to end the year.

Disclosure: I was given the opportunity to write about Giveback as a member of the One2One Network. I have not been compensated for my post, but by writing about my experience with the site I will be entered to win a BlissDom ’11 Full Registration Conference Pass, or a $350 gift card.
