Men have always needed to have their space to do manly things. Just as women have needed girls’ night out, quilting circles, book clubs and craft rooms where they can plot their eventual takeover of The Patriarchy, men have needed places to essentially beat their chests, throw things around, stare into glowing lights, make manly noises and do manly things in the company of other men.
The history of man caves goes back millions of years, when, as hunting-and-
gathering societies developed, men would often find peace in drawing their observations inside caves. Often they would draw the animals they were plotting to bring home for dinner the next day.
But alas, art was not enough. In the 17th and 18th centuries, men started grooming a bit better and felt the need to meet in powdered wigs and fancy clothes. The walls of the rooms they occupied were too nice to cover with drawings of animals, which they rarely needed to hunt for survival anyway. The creation of the game room began.
Games like poker, pool, bean-bag tossing and Foosball were created, and men loved them dearly – whether when waiting to go off to war or while winding down from the work week. The most difficult of these games was Poker. Subconsciously, men learned the infamous “Poker face” from their wives, who had to pretend that not being able to work or vote was totally awesome.
Currently, the ideal Man Cave is much more advanced, complete with
televisions with the latest and greatest gaming consoles, neon signs, and other game room accessories.
Currently, you can complete the man cave of your dreams by visiting TrueManCave, where you can find casino supplies, cornhole boards on sale, and plenty of tables and games for tailgating fun. With all these items to choose from, it’s a wonder how man managed to spend all those lifetimes without these supplies to fulfill their lives. Whatever did they do? Were they comfortable? Surely not in those powdered wigs or in those carpet-free caves. But places like TrueManCave.com have left all the worry out of the equation.
So go! Enjoy your mancave. Meanwhile, me and the girls will be upstairs “knitting” and “exchanging recipes.”
