Today I arrived at my tutoring session, netbook loaded with clips from The Electric Company, giant reading lesson book in my bag, ready for what I thought was just another day.
Then my student told me it was his last day with me. Blew my mind. I’m going to miss him. I wonder if he’ll miss me too. And I wonder if I made any difference. Today as he struggled to differentiate the word “was” from the word “has” I just kept remembering how he could barely put letters together and that he’d made a lot of improvement in reading comprehension.
I’m also kinda sad I didn’t get to show him Tom Lehrer’s “Silent E” video so he could tell me how lame it was.
The good news is there are other things happening in Jobland. Maybe not full-time but in-line with what I can do and what I want to do.
Oh, in other news, notice I’ve put a disclosure on my blog, because you’ve probably seen me writing sponsored posts on here. Please understand that I write everything to maintain my integrity but that I also have bills to pay and an adorable dog to feed.
