Yes, we have new Travel Kleenex. It’s new, it’s hip, it’s different. How different? Let’s do a side-by-side comparison of this new product against its older sibling. I was fortunate to dig through one of my makeup bags to find this old travel pack of Kleenex, circa 2007. It’s the package type most of you have known for decades. So glad I could compare the two!
As you can see, the packaging of the two is quite different. The designs are much more vibrant. But also, the material of the new Travel Kleenex packaging is a bit thicker than the thin plastic used to house the old travel-sized Kleenex. In addition, whereas the old package opened up like an envelope with a sticker for a seal, the new package opens up like a wallet.
This new design seems to keep the tissues protected, whereas the old envelope design left the tissues exposed to the various elements of your purse, makeup bag, glove compartment, etc. Unlike the old packaging, which could only be kept adhered with a sticker, the new one has reusable adhesive on the edges of the inside packaging (right and left from this angle).
When you close the old package, you can clearly see that the sticker has obviously moved and has some debris on it. When you close the new package, it is reminiscent of a magnetic wallet and is very nice and neat.
Size, number and thickness of tissues
There is no change to the size of the tissues; the new packaging retains tissues that are 8.4″x8.4″ in.
Here’s something that may concern you: The old package came with 15 tissues, whereas the new Travel Kleenex package comes with 10 tissues. However, it’s extremely important to note that the old package had two-ply tissues and the new one has three-ply, so you are actually getting the same amount of tissue you had before.
That extra ply makes ALL the difference. I was never really a fan of the old travel Kleenex because it seemed extremely scratchy. I have a very sensitive nose and allergies to boot, so it’s important that I’m blowing my nose with something soft. These are very noticeably much softer.
So, all in all, I say the new Travel Kleenex is a VAST improvement over its predecessor. I’ll have to keep testing it out in real life, but from the looks of it, I think it will be a pretty good experience.
