Hemp Seeds are rich in Omega-3 Fatty acids, protein and amino acids, and in my experience, make a great additive to your foods. Each one-ounce serving has 162 calories, 13g of fat, 2g carbohydrates and 10g of protein. There’s no cholesterol, no trans fats and only 1 gram of saturated fat. It’s important to differentiate the good fats from the bad ones, and this is naturally loaded with the good!
The package said the seeds had a “buttery flavor.” Now, I am a butter purist. We eat butter in this house – period. So I was a bit skeptical when I tried this. Unfortunately, my skepticism was confirmed. I wouldn’t say these seeds were “buttery.” I’d call them “nutty.” They remind me a bit of sesame seeds, which means they should go great on salads, with asian dishes, and in your breakfast.
I tried some in my oatmeal, and it was great! I also stirred it into some vanilla yogurt, and I must admit it was mighty tasty and added a nice texture. I can also see these seeds being baked into quick breads or granola. Maybe even added to smoothies! I said earlier that it would be great in breakfast, but I would NOT add this to scrambled eggs. Maybe in an omelet, though.
