I got a copy of Mat Kearney’s Young Love in the mail yesterday, and I must say it’s made my trips in the car much sunnier and brighter.
This album is full of feel-good freshness. Mat’s excellent singing voice, over a background of claps, bopping beats and rich power-pop, makes this album just a big, ten-track box of ear candy.
The first track and single, “Hey Mama,” hooks you in with a sunny clap and a catchy, infectious sound that is the perfect summer hit.
Just when I thought the song couldn’t be topped when it was playing in my car, I caught the video, which was shot on location in my adopted hometown of New Orleans.
Check it out.
And that’s not where it ends! The tracks continue to fuse rock and power-pop and let you just sit back and be fun again. The sounds are rich, and the music is a bright spot in what has been an unbelievably hot and stressful summer.
