A sad day for geeks…David Tennant leaving Doctor Who!

Well, we all knew it was bound to happen sooner or later. Either you leave the role of The Doctor or you stay and forever be typecast.

Today, BBC News announced that David Tennant is leaving the show to move on to bigger and better things. (Check the link for a great interview.)

The rebirth of Doctor Who has probably been one of the most ingenious developments in sci-fi television history. In addition to completely modernizing the show, it has never lost its campy appeal that gained so many fans back in the day. It’s a fun show. Families can watch it together. Friends can talk about it. And the writing really is just absolutely spectacular.

Doctor Who began more than 40 years ago as a series built to teach children basic science lessons, and developed into the fantastic series it is today.

If you’re on Netflix, there are plenty of classic episodes available as “Watch Instantly” selections. It’s interesting to see the personalities of all the Doctors.

I am excited about whomever the next Doctor will be. Rumors are that it’s Paterson Joseph, which would make for the first black Doctor in the show’s run. The excitement is killing me!

We love you, David Tennant!
