To get away from the craziness of the Presidential elections, tonight I cast my vote in the blockbuster picture premiere battle between Saw V and High School Musical. I chose the latter, and, although I really have no point of reference otherwise, I’m glad I did.
The premise of Saw V is not anything new. Jigsaw sets more traps, more people die, more blood is spattered, more backstories are explained and more holes are created for the next one.
If you are a fan of the franchise, it’s advisable to see this film. Although there are some unbearable moments – mostly some of the cringeworthy gore scenes, as well as a horrible wig worn by actress Julie Benz.
I was left wondering throughout the film if Julie was going to rip her wig off, but the viewer was actually supposed to be convinced that it was her real hair! I swear I saw her wig at the Halloween store today.
Anyway. Enough of that.
Oh, yes, and also, Costas Mandylor (who takes on the role of Jigsaw in this film, since Tobin Bell’s character is dead) looks smug throughout.
And is it just me, or does Mandylor totally look like Sylvester Stallone and that dude from Eddie and the Cruisers had a test-tube baby?
