If you run a business – whether it be exclusively online or a petsitting service – social media is the best, fastest and cheapest way to get the word out, build momentum and gain new clients. Social Media Commerce for Dummies is an excellent, up-to-date book on how to integrate your business with social media, as well as the importance of it.
As someone who works exclusively in social media, I’ve read quite a bit of literature on the subject, but my experience is mostly hands-on. However, I do know there are people out there who need advice on how to get their businesses off the ground; that’s one of the many ways I help people in my own job.
One of the biggest problems I’ve faced in reading how-tos in Social Media is that they seem so outdated. Two years ago I read a book that told me to, by all means, stop hanging out on Friendster. Really? Gee, thanks for telling me that ten years after everyone stopped using it.
Social Media Commerce for Dummies is a completely different book, and has up-to-date info on the social media networks that will help your business grow. Written by Marsha Collier – a blogger, radio host and author of each edition of the bestselling “eBay for Dummies” series, this book definitely has the scoop from someone who knows e-commerce.
Social Media Commerce for Dummies includes useful tools on how to build a following, engage your fans and drive sales and clients. The book also recognizes that social media is an ever-evolving medium – listing sites you should join right now but with the understanding that things will change. This will most certainly not be the first edition of this book, but it’s still worth the read.
This book gives you tips on who to follow on Twitter, how you can improve your business on Youtube, and even how to set up online restaurant reservations on your restaurant web site! I found this book extremely useful and plan on implementing many of its rules of thumb into my business in the future.
If you operate your own business and want a web presence – this is a valuable investment. Retailing at $26.99, it’s a small price to pay for the return you are most certain to have if you follow Collier’s tips.
I enjoy the benefits of being a “For Dummies” Ambassador through the Global Influence Network. All opinions are my own.
