Unfortunately, we have to live around each other

If you know me, you know I am very opinionated and will let every dang person know exactly what I think about everything. Well, this week I opened my big mouth in that ugly Facebook group for discussing requiring drug tests of “welfare” recipients and as a result I got into some heated debate that turned to obnoxious proportions.

And then I woke up and someone on my friends list sent out a “joke” prayer for the President to die. And right now I’m like, “nice.”

Today I saw that in Washington it was no different. The President appeared at a Q and A with House Republicans, at which he held up his shield and sword and met every talking point possible with class and intelligence. And reminded everyone that nothing has been able to get done with our lawmakers refusing to work together.

We can spend all the time we want fighting one another, searching for a place for online political debate and getting angry and calling names and such. I’m sure we’ve at least all done it in private. But we can’t escape the fact that we all have to LIVE around each other. We have to go to the same schools, grocery stores, post offices. We have to drive the same roads. We aren’t all in this for ourselves. We are all in this together, and we should be.

BTW, CSPAN is re-airing the Q & A, which was absolutely compelling television, at 8 p.m. EST tonight (1/29/10). I urge you to watch it.
